Some Facts:

  • The best time to identify a reading problem is in kindergarten or first grade.  The earlier the treatment, the better the odds of a positive outcome.  Primary school teachers are on the "front lines" of identification.

  • The drawing on the left "I hate life, its hard" was drawn by an 8 year old dyslexec boy.  This drawing illustrates the serveity  of the struggles that a child can go through when dealing with a learning problem.

  • If not identified, or if unsuccessfully treated, the statistics show that those who suffer from a reading disability are more likely to be incarcerated, to drop out of school, or to attempt suicide.  This is serious business!

Our Mission:

At The Reading Disabilities and Dyslexia Awareness Group we want to increase the awareness and early identification of reading disabilities and dyslexia.  We also want to provide information to educators on the most recent research backed reading programs so that they can be incorporated when called for.  We do this primarily through presentations to groups that are involved with primary school aged children and are in a position to identify those children with unique learning styles and special educational needs.

If you are part of a group involved with young children and are interested in learning more about our informative presentations, please contact us.  There is no charge for these presentations and we can often provide materials that can be used by educators to help in the remediation process.

We can also provide information to parents who may be concerned about the education and development of their child.  Knowledge is power and an informed parent can be the best advocate for a child with special needs.  If you are concerned about the progress of your child and think there may be a learning problem, please visit the "signs of a reading disability" page on this website.  If you would like more inormation, check out some other web sites identified on the "links" page, or complete the contact form on the "contact us" page.
